How on earth are we going to keep an audience without them knowing what they're looking at? The commentators were fun, but not very helpful in guiding non-horsey people along. I can't speak for the TV commentary, I've been watching the live stream on the website and app... but they definitely were the weakest commentators I've seen. Rolex had much better ones. The event dressage commentators weren't always picking up late changes!Codex Dressagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04736021620789376995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4010353728052033100.post-88123906320564860152016-08-10T16:04:16.169-04:002016-08-10T16:04:16.169-04:00That's what I thought! Maybe it wouldn't be something you did for all the major events, but Olympics and WEG for sure.Codex Dressagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04736021620789376995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4010353728052033100.post-46023644922257921482016-08-10T16:02:02.042-04:002016-08-10T16:02:02.042-04:00I totally agree about the parts I watched so far. ...I totally agree about the parts I watched so far. I'd be confused if I didn't know the sport. Hell, I was confused with knowing the sport. And it wasn't helped by the TV commentary being inane and useless. It's like we need to dumb it down so non-horse people can kinda-sorta understand. That's why I'd like to see every movement labeled in dressage as it's being performed. Non-horse people could see oh, when they're skipping it's flying changes. When they're legs are crossing that's half pass. I agree with immediate results- it's a draw to the gymnastics. 20 sec later you have a result. We compete for a long time.

We absolutely need to figure out how to get the scoring and movements across to a non-horsey audience. That's what will save us- not renaming or changing the scoring.Codex Dressagehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04736021620789376995noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4010353728052033100.post-65605915508703841272016-08-10T11:00:35.762-04:002016-08-10T11:00:35.762-04:00One of the problems is horse people use so much ja...One of the problems is horse people use so much jargon. We don't even realize it and that is where some of the disconnect comes in to play. It is also difficult because there are four days for one discipline. People want immediate results.

I really like the helmet covers that New Zealand had on XC because they were readily identifiable. I was like you and trying to work and watch and was easily lost on the not so big names. I think that part of the problem is the mainstream media. They show the wrecks and not the superb riding. My Facebook was plastered with the Brazilian that came off in show jumping. I feel like there is a huge disconnect and changing the name won't fix that.
